Profile

What to show, why, and how.

Kim Hye Ree is a visual director and educator who designs the value of K-culture content through visual language.

Drawing on her experience as a costume team coordinator at SBS and on the set of 007: Die Another Day at Pinewood Studios in the UK, she has researched how to read people, narratives, and products and translate them into images. She has applied this approach to musician styling, stage costumes for Chunhyangjeon, and brand planning for regional artisans, and has systematized it as “AI識” (AI-Sik), the judgment capability needed in the age of generative AI.

Three connected methods

  1. I

    Visual Directing

Going beyond the craft of making things look attractive, it reads the value of people, narratives, and products and translates it into concept, image, and physical form.

    1. ANALYZE
    2. CONCEPT
    3. VISUALIZE
    4. REALIZE
    5. VERIFY
  2. II

    AI識 Visual Method

It identifies AI-generated information and images, verifies their validity and feasibility, and reconstructs them to fit the intended purpose.

    AIPS = 0.30 I + 0.35 V + 0.35 R

  3. III

    Education Methodology

It builds hands-on education that carries learners from image to physical object, including three types of online and blended learning, a five-stage teaching-learning model, and Design-Based Research (DBR).

    1. IMAGE
    2. OBJECT
    3. FIELD
    4. REFLECTION

Selected work

People. Narrative. Product.

One set of visual directing principles connects a person’s identity, a performance’s narrative, and the value of a regional product.

  • People

    Musician Styling

Analyzes music, identity, and target audience, then turns the image into actual costumes and styling.

  • Narrative

    Stage Costumes

    Roli Poli, Anne, Awaken, Chunhyangjeon

Translates a traditional narrative into a contemporary costume image, taking into account stage lighting, the actors’ movement, and the relationships within each scene.

  • Product

    Regional Artisan Brand Visual Planning

Reconstructs an artisan’s products and story into concept, styling, and advertising content, connecting them to the market.

  • Research

    AI識 Educational Principles Research

Proposes a cyclical structure of identification, verification, and reconstruction, along with an assessment framework of 10 items across 3 domains.

  • Discourse

    Research, Policy, and Media Activities

Extends professional discourse through hands-on education research, policy advisory work, appearances as a TV expert panelist, and the column Kim Hye Ree’s Deep Dive into K-Culture.
